Knee jerk reaction by Russia

Russia on Monday announced that it would hike its key interest rate to 17 percent, effective Tuesday, citing rising devaluation and inflation risks.

The bank had raised the rate to 10.5 percent last week in an effort to stem a run on its currency.

"This decision is aimed at limiting substantially increased ruble depreciation risks and inflation risks,'' the central bank said in a statement. The decision is effective starting Dec 16.

Earlier on Monday, the Russian ruble saw its biggest drop against the dollar since 1998. It strengthened after the rate decision and was last trading at 62.50 rubles per dollar, compared to 65.50 before the announcement.

The announcement comes on the back of a plunge in the price of oil—Russia's main export and revenue source. The country also faces headwinds from Western sanctions over its conflicts with Ukraine.

Dennis Gartman, editor and publisher of "The Gartman Letter," said that while the move could perk up the currency in the short term, the country may regret the decision later.

"All it is is a temporary stem in the decline of the ruble," Gartman told CNBC Monday. "The problems that it's going to create for the Russian economy, for the Russian people and for Mr. Putin, [will be] very severe."

Gartman sees the ruble trading at 100 against the dollar soon. The currency has tumbled some 50 percent year-to-date.

"This is really extraordinary to watch," Gartman said. "I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Russians we selling gold, they have no choice. What else can they sell? They can't sell any crude oil anymore."

The Kremlin recently trimmed its growth forecast for 2015, predicting that the economy will sink into recession.

In September, the United States and the European Union imposed a new round of sanctions for Moscow's actions in Ukraine, which included blocking Western financial markets to key Russian companies and limiting imports of some technologies.

The additional sanctions were expected to cause enough pain to put Russia into recession for one or two years, predicted economist Alexei Kudrin, who served as finance minister under President Vladimir Putin for 11 years until 2011.

The potential for a prolonged downturn caused investors to pull their money from the capital, causing the ruble to further lose value.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Quitting Cognizant

Dear friends,

It might be a surprise for many of you after reading the ‘Blog Post Title’. I have one Sad and Good news for you.

The Sad News is that, my last working day in Cognizant is Dec-31, 2014. For a change, just thought, I can inform this a month before rather than telling it on the last day!

The Good News is that, I will be working as Part Time with Cognizant in 2015 where I will be spending one week every month. However, I will be quitting the job completely by end of 2015.

So, why I’m quitting my Job?

I’m quitting my job to chase my dream of promoting volunteering in India. I have a dream where every Indian volunteers atleast once a month (12/365). I will be spending most of my time doing various initiatives to inculcate the habit of kindness and volunteering among Children for the rest of my life through my NGO Team Everest which was started in 2006.

i-quit-conizant-2 - Copy

What is the plan for 2015?

SMILE 100: We will be adopting 100 parentless and single parented kids and support them till they finish education. So, I will be spending most of my times in villages, identifying the right child, right school and individual sponsors for them. If you want to sponsor a Child, please register here – http://bit.ly/everestsmile100 . Minimum contribution amount is Rs 50 per month. You can choose an amount of your choice. We will let you know the child details once it is finalized  by May, 2015.

Oct-10, 2015: It is going to be an important day in my life as I will be revealing the plans for the rest of my life. I have dreamt about it while I was a 5th std student and Oct-10, 2015 is the day when I’m going to realize my dreams. Please block your calendar now itself to join my special day.

What will I do for my living?

When I told about my decision to quit to my friends and family, everyone was asking me this question – ‘What will I do for my earning?’. I thought, it is better to address this query openly and being transparent about it.

Though, it is legally possible to get a salary through my NGO Team Everest, I’m not interested to take it since I want it to go to children as much as possible. So, honestly I have not planned anything for my income. My focus is completely on the service I’m planning to do for my country. I hope, I will figure out a way to have some income in the next 2 or 3 years.

I’m planning to work for Cognizant for 1 week a month in 2015. So, I will be anyway getting 1/4th of the salary which I’m getting right now for next 1 year. However, I will not be getting this in 2016. So, my wife would be the source of income for our family. I have told her to give me time for 3 years before which I will figure out a way to have income for myself.

Though I have opportunities to do business in social sector or become a social Entrepreneur, I decided not to do it since it would take away a lot of my time and I have a worry that it would become an obstacle for me to do what I want to do for my country. I would be doing a little consulting for companies on CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) which would consume less of my time, since I get many such requests from various companies.

Sometimes, I get a dream that few individuals after getting to know about my good work are sponsoring for my salary. Who knows, it may became a reality one day.

I’m not worried much about it now. I do not have any financial goals in mind. All I would need is to feed my family and have a little money to help others. So, I will figure it out later, while this is time to focus on my service! We live this life only once and my dad’s death has taught me that this life is short. So, I wanted to chase my dream of promoting volunteering in our country.

Stay in touch:

Though I’m out of Cognizant, I would like to stay in touch with all of you. If you are on facebook, please give me a friend request – www.facebook.com/kartheevidya. I will be posting most of my volunteering service activities on my FB page.

Any time in your life, if you wanted to help someone on your birthday or any other normal days, reach me through our Everest Help Desk number – 89399 12365. I would be glad to help. After all, this is my passion! Please save this number so that when I use the ‘Broadcast’ option in Whatsapp, the message reaches you. The habit that's led to Mark Zuckerberg's success

You have questions, Mark Zuckerberg has answers.

The founder and CEO of the world's largest social network, Facebook, answered about 20 questions from users Thursday afternoon at a town hall event in Menlo Park, California.

The Q&A session streamed live on Facebook, where "Zuck" – the nickname used by the 30-year-old – shared insight on topics ranging from the world's perception of the social media giant to the best advice he would give his younger self.

Zuckerberg doesn't think Facebook is a waste of time

When asked what he thinks about Facebook becoming synonymous with wasting time, Zuckerberg said he wasn't sure he agreed with the premise of the question. He explained everyone is told they'll have time for life after finishing school or their homework, but they forget to realize that friends and family is what matters in life. Facebook, he said, helps connect people in a way society doesn't always offer. "We're proud of our contribution there," Zuckerberg said. "If we could make people a little more connected then I think that's valuable."

The habit that has attributed to Zuckerberg's success

One of the most important things Zuckerberg said he tries do on a daily basis is to use his time proactively rather than reactively. There are enough things that come up during the day that one can use to fill up their entire day by reacting to them, Zuckerberg said. Granted, he explained, one has to be responsive and communicative, but it's important as an entrepreneur to be proactive and know what you want to accomplish each day.

Zuck's 2015 New Year's resolution

Good news, slackers – you're in good company! Zuckerberg said he has yet to come up his 2015 New Year's resolution. "It's too early!" Zuckerberg jokingly exclaimed, with 20 days still remaining in 2014. He said his past New Year's resolutions include cooking more ("it was fun") and learning Mandarin ("it was really hard…my wife tells me all the time that I'm bad at English"). His 2014 resolution was to write one note of thanks each day, which Zuckerberg admitted has been a difficult task. Why? He explained that there are two types of people in the world: those who see the beauty in things and those who want to make those things better. "I'm from the latter," he said, adding that his management team tends to laugh at him when he looks to improve people's actions rather than thank them for a job well done.

He wants his employees to correct him in public

Facebook employees will stand up during a town hall and correct Zuckerberg if he says something wrong. "I like openness," he said. "It's a little embarrassing, but it's good to have."

What Zuckerberg did but was never thanked for until today

A woman from Nicaragua, who now lives down the block from Facebook's headquarters, stood up to thank Zuckerberg and his company for "upping the price of her house." After much laughter from the audience and big smile from Zuckerberg, he said it was the first time someone thanked him for Facebook

The advice he would give his younger self

You're going to make mistakes no matter what you do, Zuckerberg said. "People spend a lot of time focusing on not making mistakes or regretting them" but you shouldn't strive to be right about everything, he explained. Albert Einstein made mistakes, but people don't focus on that.

What Zuckerberg likes on his pizza

Yes, someone took the opportunity to ask Facebook's CEO in a public forum what he likes on his pizza. His answer? "My view on this important issue is that if you're going to be eating pizza, you might as well be having fried chicken on top of the pizza. Next question."

You can apply Bipartite Matching algorithm of Graph Theory. All you have to do is:
  1. Put all girls as vertices (a's) in Part A, and boys as vertices (b's) in Part B.
  2. Draw an edge between vertex a to vertex b if a likes b.
  3. It will be a bipartite graph (there are no edges within vertices of Part A, and same for Part B) unless your friends are not straight.
  4. Then find maximum matching for this bipartite graph. (refer this linkMaximum Bipartite Matching - GeeksforGeeks)
  5. You will get maximum matching as output and the matched edges will be the pairs who should be together.
  6. You can apply weighted bipartite matching algorithm if you know how much they love/like each other. In that case, assign weights according to their amount of love. and repeat step 4 and 5.

Thanks for asking this question. Finally I have found a real life problem which can be solved by what Prof Panda has been teaching us for 2-3 years.

P.S. I can provide you code for both weighted and unweighted maximum bipartite matching which I made for my project.
